What's New !

Okay, I've been out for awhile, but I have a good excuse...  MORE darkroom work! Right above are four brand new images...  The top two were just printed today.."Lone Pine Peak", and then "Merced River, Evening, below Happy Isles" Then "Redwoods, Old Coast Road", and "Wave, Point Pinos".   The opportunity arose several weeks ago where I could spend time slaving under a hot OC filter, and I worked with some popular negatives, as well as some old images that have never been printed. Of course, I was reminded why some of them were never printed, but I found some good things, too. Most have sold a few copies already, a most rewarding sign to all the effort. Here are a few things that you probably haven't seen before...

Sand Dunes, Sunrise, Eureka Valley

  Clark Range, Late Afternoon Storm

 Aspens, Evening, Kennedy Meadows

New York City, Haze, from the Empire State Building

Sand Dunes, Late Morning, Death Valley

 Canyonlands, Late Afternoon, near Moab
So, here's something fun, I've been going for walks up the canyon from my house, as it leads to a super quiet forest of Oaks, Buckeyes, and Spanish Moss. So far I've just done digital stuff, 'scouting', then converting the images to grayscale and doing the normal dodging, burning, and contrast adjustments through  Photoshop. Kind of the 'lazy man's' approach to black and white... I'll take the 4x5 up there soon, and I think I'll get some nice things.

I have succeeded in putting a whole page of my Stanislaus pictures together! I just finished assembling all the rollovers today, and I hope you enjoy these photographs as much as I have, for so many years. You may wonder about my fascination for this river canyon. Well, #1 is that it's gone, drowned under the waters of the New Melones Reservoir thirty years ago, which to me is a very poor substitute for the Living River that it 'replaced'. In the late 70's and early 80's there were many people involved with trying to save the river, in many creative ways. Unfortunately we failed, and this gorgeous, friendly canyon was lost for all time. Lost, except for those of us that had the blessing to live it. So, I present these photographs whenever I can, and a recent, very successful exhibit at Sonora Joe's in Sonora, CA, persuaded me to give some special space on my website. If the images interest you, there are some folks you can visit in Sonora, mentioned in the writing in the left hand column, or you can certainly contact me with any comments. I sincerely hope you enjoy these special, and historic photographs.
